Overview

ASUS Laptop D509DA is a budget-to-mid-range 15.6-inch notebook for routine computing. In the reviewed configuration, it combines an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor, 8 GB DDR4 memory, and a 512 GB SSD. The package is shipped with FreeDOS, so the buyer can choose and install an operating system separately.

Design and Build

The chassis uses a simple gray design with a matte lid and a centered ASUS logo. Build quality is above average for this class, with solid materials, though the source notes some visible play in the body joints. At 1.9 kg, it is still portable, but less comfortable for frequent carry than lighter 15.6-inch options.

Display, Sound, and Webcam

The Full HD IPS panel is a clear strength for daily work: stable viewing angles, sharp text, and a matte surface that helps under strong light. The reported peak brightness is a little above 300 cd/m2, which is good for this segment. Audio from the two-speaker SonicMaster setup is sufficiently loud for casual use, while bass remains limited. The webcam is basic at 0.3 MP and mainly suitable for simple video calls.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The island-style keyboard includes a numeric keypad and three-level backlighting, improving comfort for typing in low light and for office tasks. Key travel and spacing are described as comfortable. The touchpad is compact but responsive, with consistent gesture input across its surface.

Performance and Everyday Use

Ryzen 5 3500U with Radeon Vega 8 delivers mid-level performance suitable for office workloads, web use, streaming, and light multitasking. This hardware can also handle less demanding games, but it is not positioned for heavy gaming or high-end content creation. The 512 GB SSD and 8 GB RAM provide a responsive baseline for normal daily scenarios.

Ports and Battery Life

The laptop covers common connectivity needs: USB Type-C, USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, microSD, and a combo audio jack. There is no built-in RJ-45 LAN port, so wired networking requires an adapter. Battery life is modest: roughly four hours for Full HD video playback, and close to one hour under high load.

Verdict

ASUS Laptop D509DA is best for users who want an affordable 15.6-inch notebook for office work and everyday media. Its strongest points are the IPS Full HD display, practical keyboard, and balanced core hardware with SSD storage. The main compromises are limited webcam quality, average battery endurance, and only mid-tier performance.
