August 13, 2020 By Notebook Center Editorial Team ASUS
Summary: A 15.6-inch gaming laptop with Core i7-10750H, GTX 1660 Ti, 144 Hz display, and strong upgrade options, but average screen quality and no built-in webcam.

Editor note: This article is an original English adaptation of a Notebook-Center.ru review, rewritten for Notebook Center readers with the same core test facts.

Overview

The ASUS ROG Strix G15 G512 is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop in the mid-range segment. The reviewed configuration combines an Intel Core i7-10750H processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics, 16 GB RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. In practical terms, this setup is suitable for modern games at high settings and for everyday work, but it competes in a crowded price class where display quality and noise behavior matter a lot.

Design and Build

The chassis is plastic but styled to look like matte metal. The design uses aggressive gaming accents and is sold in multiple color variants. Build quality is mixed: the base feels solid, while the lid is more flexible under torsion. At 2.3 kg, this is transportable but not truly lightweight. A major advantage is upgrade flexibility, including RAM, wireless module, and storage expansion.

Display, Audio, and Webcam

The Full HD IPS panel supports 144 Hz, which helps game smoothness, but measured brightness and contrast are modest for this class. Color coverage is limited (around 60% sRGB), so this panel is not ideal for color-critical work. The matte finish reduces reflections, and no PWM flicker was reported. Speakers are usable but light on bass. There is no built-in webcam, so video calls require an external camera.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard offers a comfortable key travel with four-zone RGB backlighting and useful dedicated media controls above the key area. Large keys such as Enter and Shift are easy to use, while the arrow cluster is compact and needs adaptation. The touchpad is small but responsive, with working multitouch gestures and quiet physical clicks.

Performance and Gaming

With the Core i7-10750H and GTX 1660 Ti, the laptop delivers solid mid-tier gaming results. Heavy titles are playable, though not always at maximum presets. The reviewed results indicate strong frame rates in many popular games, while the most demanding titles benefit from reducing settings from ultra to high. For creators and office users, the platform is more than sufficient for daily multitasking.

Ports, Battery, and Thermals

Connectivity is practical for gaming use: most ports are on the left and rear, with no right-side I/O to interfere with mouse movement. Battery life is typical for this category, about six hours in light web use and much less under gaming load. Thermals stay controlled without extreme surface heat, but fan noise is always noticeable and becomes loud during sustained load.

Verdict

The ASUS ROG Strix G15 G512 is a competent gaming notebook for users who prioritize stable performance and future upgrades. Its main strengths are practical gaming speed, expandable storage options, and a good keyboard experience. The main compromises are average panel quality, audible fan noise, and the missing webcam. For buyers focused on gameplay and upgrade headroom, it remains a sensible option in the mid-range segment.
