April 30, 2020 By Notebook Center Editorial Team DELL
Summary: Dell XPS 13 9300 pairs a bright 16:10 display, quality build, and long battery life with modern connectivity, but it remains expensive and non-upgradeable in RAM.

Overview

Dell XPS 13 9300 keeps the premium compact idea of the XPS line and adds useful updates: a taller 16:10 display, Ice Lake hardware, and refined input and audio. In this tested configuration, it targets users who need a light, high-quality laptop for daily professional work, study, and travel.

Design and Build

The chassis combines silver aluminum outer panels with a black carbon-fiber palm rest. The device feels rigid, the finish resists fingerprints reasonably well, and one-hand opening is possible. At 1.31 kg and 10 mm thickness, portability is a key strength.

Display, Audio, and Webcam

The 13.4-inch matte IPS panel uses a 16:10 format and delivers strong brightness and contrast, which helps in bright rooms. Viewing angles are wide, and color coverage is suitable for users doing light-to-mid level color-sensitive work. The limits are slower pixel response and PWM at lower brightness levels. Speakers are clear for everyday media, while the 720p webcam is acceptable for routine calls.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard stretches across the deck with larger keycaps and two-level backlighting. Typing is comfortable after a short adjustment to the short key travel. The glass touchpad is large, smooth, and responsive for gestures and navigation.

Performance and Everyday Use

The Intel Core i5-1035G1 and 8 GB LPDDR4 memory are tuned for office work, web, video conferencing, and multitasking in daily workflows. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics G1 can handle lighter games, but demanding titles require low settings. A practical limitation is that RAM is soldered, so memory upgrades are not available later.

Ports, Connectivity, and Battery

Physical connectivity is minimal but modern: two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, microSD, and a headset jack. Wireless support includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. Battery life is a major advantage, with long runtimes reported in web and video scenarios; under heavy load, runtime drops as expected. Cooling remains generally quiet in normal use, with higher but manageable noise during sustained stress.

Verdict

Dell XPS 13 9300 is a premium ultraportable focused on build quality, a bright 16:10 display, and strong battery endurance in a compact body. It is best for users who prioritize mobility and daily productivity over upgrade flexibility or broad port variety. Main compromises are high pricing, soldered memory, and a slower display response profile.
